James Carson Hayes, 71, of Wilmington and a
winter resident of the River Rest Community in Tavares, Fla., died
at 4:36 p.m.
Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2008) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his
wife, Yvonne C. Hayes.
They were married June 28, 1959.
Mr.
Hayes was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Burdine, Ky., son of the late Arville and
Lurlie Billiter Hayes. He retired from
the U.S. Air Force Reserves after 34
years of service. During his career, he was a flight engineer and aircraft
mechanic at the Clinton County Air Force Base and Rickenbacker Air Force Base.
For the last 10 years of his
career, he worked in quality control for the
federal government at the G.E. plant in Evendale. He was a member
of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, B.P.O. Elks 797, American
Legion Post 49 and
AMVETS.
In
addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dennis James (Michelle) Hayes of
Washington Court House; a
daughter, Cynthia Ann (Shawan) Williams of Wilmington;
a sister, Jeanette Young of Fairmont, W.Va.; and four
grandchildren, Andrew
Hayes, Kristen Hayes, Garrett Williams and Sarah Williams.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Davis.
Mass
of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Columbkille
Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry
St., Wilmington, the Rev. James M. Wedig
officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, where military honors
will be
accorded by the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad. Visitation will be from
5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the
REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St.,
Wilmington, where there will be an Elks service at 8 p.m.
Friday evening.
